The Elemental Void

Conceived as a new office space for our practice, the A&J Office building was designed in 2019. With a total area of 1800 sqft, it is an office space based on sustainability. There are iconic windows and a floating stair which are the highlights of the interior.

The material palette was inspired by the brutalist movement, thereby focussing on using materials like brick, and concrete as it is. An open and minimal design language creates a very positive work environment with incorporated greenery and abundant light and ventilation.

Sustainability

The building has net-zero energy consumption, due to the solar panels, which doubles as a roof for part of the terrace. There is no requirement for artificial lighting or cooling, even in the hot and humid conditions of Alleppey. The cool natural stone flooring also adds to this climate-sensitive design. The building is also surrounded by very big shady trees, which reduce radiant heat gain.
